Throughout the course of a person’s life, there are a number of different reasons they may want to sell their home and move.
For younger homeowners, they may want something larger or closer to a specific amenity. Older homeowners, on the other hand, might be interested in downsizing or moving closer to friends and family.
Here are three of the biggest reasons homeowners cite for wanting to sell their home and move.
There’s Not Enough Space
More millennials own a home than ever before, and millennials are also increasing in age. Depending on their particular lifestyle needs, they might be thinking about growing their household size.
That’s why 35% of homeowners aged 29 to 39 said their top reason for selling is that their “home is too small.”
Greener Employment Pastures
19% of homeowners in that same age range cited “job relocation” as their number one reason.
No matter which way you slice it, more millennials are wanting a change in size (or scenery).
Want to Be Closer to Friends and Family
For older homeowners, a big reasons for wanting to sell involves being closer to friends and family. In fact, 14% of all home sellers cited this as their #1 reason for moving.
In the 64-72 age range, around 26% of sellers are moving to be closer to their loved ones. Community is a powerful thing, and it makes sense to live somewhere that you love—and a place that’s filled with people you love, too.
